Simiz stores your data for a default duration adapted to each category, in compliance with local regulations and your contractual obligations. You can extend this duration if your own obligations require it.
Settings → Account → Data retention in your dashboard.
Data categories
| Category | Default duration | Configurable up to |
|---|
| Transactions and status | Indefinite (kept while your account is active) | Indefinite |
| API logs | 90 days (Standard) — extended with Analytics Pro / Audit | Per active addon |
| KYC documents | 5 years after account closure (legal obligation) | 5 years (cannot be reduced) |
| Webhooks and payloads | 30 days | 1 year |
| Customer communications (notifications, WhatsApp) | 6 months | 5 years with Audit & Compliance |
What you can change
- Extend the retention duration for configurable categories
- Enable automatic export before deletion (CSV or S3)
- Request early deletion of a category (except KYC which follows the legal obligation)
Customer-requested deletion
If a customer exercises their right to erasure (GDPR or equivalent), you can:
- Go to Customers → [Customer] → Retention → Anonymise
- Confirm the action
Anonymisation preserves accounting records (legal obligation) but removes personally identifying data (name, email, phone). You retain the tax proof of the transaction.
Account closure
When your Simiz account is closed:
- Transaction and financial data remain retained per local legal obligation (typically 5–10 years)
- KYC documents remain 5 years after closure
- Logs and webhooks are purged according to your configuration at closure time
- You receive a final export PDF + CSV of your activity before purge
If you operate in multiple jurisdictions with different obligations, choose the longest duration per category. Simiz then complies with the strictest.
